The remainder of this flag has one red and one white horizontal stripe of equal width. Above the star is a banner with the date May 2, 1775, the date of the questionable Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. The banner below the star has the date April 12, 1776, the date of the Halifax Resolves which was the first official action by a colony calling for independence.
